August 2023 MMPC Meeting – Fenner Nature Center

The August MMPC meeting will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2023, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Fenner Nature Center, 2020 E Mt Hope Ave, Lansing, MI 48910. We will walk on both paved and unpaved trails. Meet on the steps to the Nature Center building. MMPC does not meet in July.

Delta Township Fireworks

Past President Paul Bielawski will lead a field trip for the Delta Township Fireworks on Monday July 3, 2023. Meet at the Delta Walking Trail near 1115 Maycroft. We will meet at 9:00 p.m. The fireworks will start after 10:00 p.m. This is north of Saginaw Highway, two blocks west of the light at Robbins. There is parking on Maycroft and we will be a block east of the fireworks at Sharp Park. We will walk to Sharp Park for the fireworks. Paul will discuss four techniques for images of fireworks.

MMPC Field Trip to Kate Palmer Sanctuary – Trilliums

MMPC will sponsor a field trip to photograph the trillium wildflowers at the Kate Palmer Sanctuary near Jackson on Saturday, April 29, 2023. We will meet at the Park and Ride Lot at the Holt Road exit off of US 127 at 8:30 a.m. An event has been posted on the Facebook page.

April 2023 MMPC Meeting

To provide all MMPC members the opportunity to see the images in the 2023 MMPC Gallery Show, we will hold the April MMPC meeting as a reception for the Gallery Show.  The April MMPC meeting will be held on Wednesday April 5, 2023, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Riverview Church – Holt Venue, 3585 E Willoughby Rd, Holt, MI. The meeting and reception will provide MMPC members the opportunity to view the photographs on display in the Gallery Show and to interact with photographers whose work is shown. Please invite family members and others who may be interested in your images and or the images shown by the club members. Guests are encouraged to attend the event.

Annual MMPC Photo Clinic – Wednesday January 4, 2023

MMPC traditionally holds an open house and clinic on January to attract new members. All MMPC members are invited to attend on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Please note the start time and encourage attendance by all that may be interested. Please help us to publicize this event by sharing information through social media and other means. To encourage you to bring a guest, we will hold a raffle open to MMPC members that bring a guest to award a free annual membership for 2023-24. The club will offer a free membership to a guest and in addition have a raffle for members with a $25 prize. Members will get one entry per guest that you bring and the club will draw the winner.

Gallery Show Planning

The annual MMPC Gallery Show will be held again at the Riverview Church – Holt Venue. The dates will be March 8, 2023 – May 24, 2023. All MMPC members are encouraged to display their images. The pricing will be $10 for up to two images. All prints must be matted, framed, and ready to hang (with wire on the back of the frame). The maximum outside dimensions of the mat are 28 X 32 inches. Minimum outside dimensions of the mat are 8 X 10 inches. Members may offer their prints for sale, or they may choose to have it on display only. December 2022 MMPC Meeting

The annual MMPC Holiday Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Main dishes including vegetables and salad will be provided. You may bring a desert to pass if you choose. November 2022 MMPC Meeting

An in-person meeting of the Mid-Michigan Photography Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday November 2, 2022. The theme for this meeting will be Black and White.

Lenny Robinson been elected President, and John Stine has been elected Vice President. Glenn Dunn will serve a term as member at-large. All MMPC members are welcome at all MMPC Board meetings.

MMPC Annual Dues

The Mid-Michigan Photography Club collects dues annually, for the year beginning in September. The board voted to reduce the cost of being a club member to $25 for the 2022-23 year so if you haven’t yet paid, please bring that with you to the November meeting. October 2022 MMPC Meeting

An in-person meeting of the Mid-Michigan Photography Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 5, 2022. This will be the annual meeting of the club, including a brief business meeting and election of officers. We will hold a Big Cookie competition and we will discuss photo storage strategies. Members will share their approaches to the storage of digital images.

MMPC Board Election

We welcome any MMPC members who are interested in serving on the Board. An election will be held before the October 2022 meeting for the positions of President, Vice-President, and MMPC Board Member at-large. Lenny Robinson has agreed to be nominated as President, and John Stine has agreed to be nominated as Vice President and Glenn Dunn has agreed to be nominated as member at-large. Please contact any MMPC Board member if you are interested in being nominated or if you wish to make an additional nomination. September 2022 MMPC Meeting

An in-person meeting of the Mid-Michigan Photography Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 7, 2022. This will be a shooting meeting at Frances Park. 2600 Moores River Dr, Lansing, MI, MI 48911. Note that there is construction at Waverly and Moores River Dr. The best approach is from ML King. The Rose Garden area is good for shooting. We will take advantage of the remaining good weather.

Big Cookie

Congratulations to the winner of the March Big Cookie: Glenn Dunn for people’s choice and Andy McDavid for judges’ choice. The judges were Tammy VanderMolen, and Paul Bielawski. The theme for next big cookie is “FUNGI.” Members are encouraged to bring a digital image for the Big Cookie competition at the October meeting.

MMPC Board Election

The MMPC Board meets regularly. The Board meeting schedule is posted on the calendar at http://mmphotoclub.net/calendar. Board elections are scheduled for October 2022. We welcome any MMPC members who are interested in serving on the Board. An election will be held before the October 2022 meeting for the positions of President, Vice-President, and MMPC Board Member at-large. Lenny Robinson has agreed to be nominated as President, and John Stine has agreed to be nominated as member at-large. Please contact any MMPC Board member if you are interested in being nominated or if you wish to make an additional nomination. MMPC Monthly Photo Challenge

Thanks to all who have contributed to the MMPC Photo Challenge. The August theme is Camera Movement. It is great to see the submissions on the Facebook page. A gallery of the photos from prior months is on the MMPC web site at http://mmphotoclub.net/monthly-challenge/. If you do not use the Facebook group, send your entry by email to mmpclansing@gmail.com so that we can post it to the Facebook page. Discussion of the photos, beyond simply liking the picture, is encouraged. The current and upcoming monthly themes for the photo challenge are:
