April MMPC Meeting – April 3, 2024

To provide all MMPC members the opportunity to see the images in the 2023 MMPC Gallery Show, we will hold the April MMPC meeting as a reception for the Gallery Show.  The April MMPC meeting will be held on Wednesday April 3, 2024, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Riverview Church – Holt Venue, 3585 E Willoughby Rd, Holt, MI. The meeting and reception will provide MMPC members the opportunity to view the photographs on display in the Gallery Show and to interact with photographers whose work is shown. Please invite family members and others who may be interested in your images and or the images shown by the club members. Guests are encouraged to attend the event. Participants will gather at Gravity Smokehouse after the reception and meeting.

Take-Down – Tuesday, April 23, 2024 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Meijer Garden Butterflies Field Trip

MMPC will host a field trip to Butterflies are Blooming at Meijer Gardens on Saturday April 6, 2024. We will meet at 8:00 a.m. to carpool from the Boot Barn/Michaels lot on Marketplace South of Saginaw near the Saginaw Exit on I-96.

MMPC Field Trip to Kate Palmer Sanctuary – Trilliums

MMPC will sponsor a field trip to photograph the trillium wildflowers at the Kate Palmer Sanctuary near Jackson on Saturday, May 11, 2023. We will meet at the Park and Ride Lot at the Holt Road exit off of US 127 at 8:30 a.m. An event has been posted on the Facebook page.

Big Cookie

Congratulations Darryl Smith who is the winner of the February Big Cookie (In the Style of a Master Photographer) for People’s Choice and for Judges’ Choice. The judges were Rich Wyllis, John Stine, and Greg Edwards. The theme for next big cookie is “Animals.” Members are encouraged to bring a digital image for the Big Cookie competition at the May 2024 meeting.

An in-person meeting of the Mid-Michigan Photography Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2024. This will be a shooting event for Table Top Photography. Bring your camera, tripod, and interesting small things to photograph.

Minimum print size is 8 X 10 inches. Members may offer their prints for sale, or they may choose to have it on display only. There will be two forms that must be submitted to participate. There is the Riverview Church Artists’ Agreement, and the Application for MMPC’s Riverview Gallery Show.

Lansing Orchid Show

The Greater Lansing Orchid Society Show and Sale is an annual event held the last weekend of February at the MSU Plant and Soil Sciences Building. They hold Photo Hour from 9-11 am on Sunday, February 25. The use of tripods is allowed during this time. Backgrounds have been challenging in the past. Many displays had black backgrounds in 2023. This is a fun event. All MMPC photographers are encouraged to participate.

Congratulations to the winners of the October Big Cookie (Purple): Glenn Dunn for People’s Choice and for Judges’ Choice. The judges were John Stine and Phil Babcock. The theme for next big cookie is “In the Style of a Master Photographer.” Pick a famous or “master photographer” from the list and create an image of your own that emulates the style of the photographer that you have chosen. Your image need not be of the same subject matter or object displayed in your “master’s” image, but the style of your image should be similar. For instance, if your “master” is known for the use of highly saturated colors, your image should have highly saturated colors. If your “master” is known for moody or misty black and white images, your image should also be moody or misty and in black and white. If your “master” is known for painterly still-life images, yours should also meet that standard. Enjoy the challenge. Bring to the February 2024 meeting a copy of the “master’s” image that inspired you and the image that you have created in that style. MMPC traditionally holds an open house and clinic in January to attract new members. All MMPC members are invited to attend on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Please note the start time and encourage attendance by all that may be interested. Please help us to publicize this event by sharing information through social media and other means. To encourage you to bring a guest, we will hold a raffle open to MMPC members that bring a guest to award a free annual membership for 2023-24.

The Mid-Michigan Photography Club collects dues annually, for the year beginning in September. The cost of being a club member will be $25 for the 2023-24 year. Mid-Michigan Photography Club November 2023 Updates

December 2023 MMPC Meeting

The annual MMPC Holiday Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Main dishes including vegetables and salad will be provided. You may bring a desert to pass if you choose. Please respond no later than Sunday December 3, 2023 to the event on Facebook or to mmpclansing@gmail.com so that we can get a count of members planning to participate.

We are asking MMPC members to share their five best photos of 2023 to display during this meeting. You can send your images to mmpclansing@gmail.com or you can bring them to the meeting on a thumb drive. A slideshow of MMPC members’ photos will be running during the meeting. We will meet at First Presbyterian Church, 510 W Ottawa St, Lansing, MI. Please join us.

Mid-Michigan Photography Club October 2023 Updates

November 2023 MMPC Meeting

An in-person meeting of the Mid-Michigan Photography Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday November 1, 2023. This will be the annual meeting of the club, including a brief business meeting. Jim Leary will discuss planning for a photo trip. The discussion will include using an app called Photo Pills which will aide in the planning process.

MMPC Club Logo

The MMPC Board recently discussed the current logo and has several potential logo designs. We will share these and get input at the November meeting.

MMPC Board Election

The MMPC Board meets regularly. The Board meeting schedule is posted on the calendar at http://mmphotoclub.netcalendar. Board elections are scheduled for November 2023. We welcome any MMPC members who are interested in serving on the Board. An election will be held for the positions of Treasurer, and MMPC Board Member at-large. James Leary has agreed to be nominated as member at-large. Please contact any MMPC Board member if you are interested in being nominated or if you wish to make an additional nomination. We need someone to fill the position of Treasurer. All MMPC members are welcome at all MMPC Board meetings. Send an email to mmpclansing@gmail.com with a nomination or suggestion.

MMPC Annual Dues

The Mid-Michigan Photography Club collects dues annually, for the year beginning in September. The cost of being a club member will be $25 for the 2023-24 year so please bring that with you to the October meeting. If you need to pay MMPC dues, and can’t make the meeting, send payments to:  Mid-Michigan Photography Club, PO Box 10045, Lansing, MI 48901.

Big Cookie

Congratulations to the winners of the May Big Cookie (Boats): Glenn Dunn for people’s choice and Darryl Smith for judges’ choice. The judges were John Stine and Paul Bielawski. The theme for next big cookie is “PURPLE.” Members are encouraged to bring a digital image for the Big Cookie competition at the October 2023 meeting.

Based on the rain today and the weather prediction for this afternoon, we have decided to reschedule the September MMPC meeting to Wednesday September 13, 2023, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Michigan State University Horticulture Gardens. We will walk on both paved and unpaved trails. Meet near the entrance, by the Children’s Garden.
