June Meeting – Wednesday June 5, 2019 – Big Cookie and Light Painting

The June 2019 MMPC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 510 W Ottawa St, Lansing, MI. Bring your camera and tripod for a light painting activity. The June meeting will also feature a “Big Cookie” competition. The “Big Cookie” is the quarterly friendly photo competition sponsored by MMPC. All present at the meeting may vote for the “People’s Choice” photo. A panel of non-participating judges will offer critiques of all submitted photographs and will select a photograph for the “Judge’s Choice.” Criteria will include technique, composition, and use of the theme. The theme for June 2019 Big Cookie competition is “FLOWERS.”

August Meeting

There is no MMPC meeting scheduled in July, 2019. The August MMPC meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center, 2901 Wabash Rd, #A, Lansing, MI 48910. We will have the opportunity to photograph the horses.

MMPC Photo Challenge

Thanks to all who have contributed to the MMPC Photo Challenge. The May 2019 theme is Black and White. A gallery of the photos is on the web site at http://mmphotoclub.net/monthly-challenge/. If you do not use the Facebook group, send your entry by email to mmpclansing@gmail.com so that we can post it to the Facebook page. Discussion of the photos, beyond simply liking the picture, is encouraged. Note that the rules for the reward drawing have changed. To encourage participation and to not penalize a member that was unable to post in a given month, each member that posts in a month will receive a ticket in the gift card drawing. A member that posts in all 12 months will have 12 tickets in the drawing. Upcoming themes for the photo challenge are:

• June 2019 – Flag(s)

The gallery for the photo challenge has been updated at http://mmphotoclub.net/monthly-challenge/. April 2019 was the best month of the year. A total of 61 images were posted for Bokeh, from 27 photographers. For the year of 2019, we have had 161 images from 27 photographers. I count 10 photographers that have posted every month this year. It is particularly great to see new members and honorary members posting. Just a reminder that the theme for May 2019 is Black and White. Go out and shoot something.

Because of inclement weather, the May 2019 MMPC meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Michigan State University Horticulture Gardens. Free parking is available in lot 53, which can be entered from Farm Lane at the intersection of Trowbridge. There is a light at the intersection of Farm Lane and Trowbridge, just north of the railroad tracks. Enter the lot heading east, past the greenhouses. MMPC members have prepared a list of items for the photographic scavenger hunt. Bring your camera and equipment. Participants are encouraged to post their best photos on the MMPC Facebook group or to send their best photos to mmmpclansing@gmail.com. A scavenger hunt gallery will be posted on the MMPC web site.
