October MMPC Meeting – October 1, 2025

The October MMPC meeting will be held on Wednesday October 1, 2025, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church 510 W. Ottawa St. Lansing, MI 49833. We will have a guest presentation by Jeff Boerger on his recently published book “The Perception of Doors.”

The club will conduct the next Big Cookie friendly competitions in February 2026. The theme for the February 2026 Big Cookie is “Still Life (chiasauro).” Members are encouraged to bring a (only one) digital image the Big Cookie competitions at the February 2026 meeting.

MMPC Annual Dues

The Mid-Michigan Photography Club collects dues annually, for the year beginning in September. The cost of being a club member will be $25 for the 2025-26 year. If you need to pay MMPC dues, and can’t make the September meeting, send payments to:  Mid-Michigan Photography Club, PO Box 10031, Lansing, MI 48901.

There are gardens and a river overlook in the park. We will meet near the shelter in front of the Rose Garden. The peonies at Matthaei Botanical Gardens (https://mbgna.umich.edu/) are a spring highlight. Club members will meet at the Okemos Park and Ride (enter on Woodlake Drive behind Cracker Barrell) at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 31, 2025. A Facebook event is available to show your interest.

The meeting will provide MMPC members the opportunity to shoot at a popular local nature center. There are feeders, trails, and a photo blind in the area. In case of inclement weather, we will host an indoor program at First Presbyterian Church.

Kate Palmer Trillium Field Trip

MMPC will sponsor a field trip to photograph the trillium wildflowers at the Kate Palmer Sanctuary near Jackson on Saturday, May 3, 2023. We will meet at the Park and Ride Lot at the Okemos Road exit off of I 96 at 8:30 a.m. The Okemos Part and Ride lot is behind the Cracker Barrell off of Westlake Drive. There is limited parking at the sanctuary. It is best if we fill cars as best as possible. Jim Leary will meet the group at the Kate Palmer Sanctuary at 9:00 a.m. An event has been created on Facebook.

The meeting and reception will provide MMPC members the opportunity to view the photographs on display in the Gallery Show and to interact with photographers whose work is shown. Please invite family members and others who may be interested in your images and or the images shown by the club members. Guests are encouraged to attend the event. Participants will gather at Gravity Smokehouse after the reception and meeting.

The annual MMPC Gallery Show will be held again at the Riverview Church – Holt Venue. The dates will be March 12, 2025 – April 30, 2025. All MMPC members are encouraged to display their images. The pricing will be $10 for up to three images. All prints must be matted, framed, and ready to hang (with wire on the back of the frame). The maximum outside dimensions are 28 X 32 inches. Minimum print size is 8 X 10 inches. Members may offer their prints for sale, or they may choose to have it on display only. There will be two forms that must be submitted to participate. There is the Riverview Church Artists’ Agreement, and the Application for MMPC’s Riverview Gallery Show.

Lansing Orchid Show

The Greater Lansing Orchid Society Show and Sale is an annual event held the last weekend of February. The event will be held at Van Atta’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop, 9008 Old M-78, Haslett, MI. They hold Photo Hour from 9-11 am on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The use of tripods is allowed during this time. Backgrounds have been challenging in the past. Many displays had black backgrounds in 2024. The use of tripods is allowed. This is a fun event. MMPC photographers are encouraged to participate. Mid-Michigan Photography Club December 2024 Updates

Annual MMPC Photo Clinic – Wednesday, January 8, 2025

MMPC traditionally holds an open house and clinic on January to attract new members. All MMPC members are invited to attend on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. Please note the start time and encourage attendance by all that may be interested. Please help us to publicize this event by sharing information through social media and other means. To encourage you to bring a guest, we will hold a raffle open to MMPC members that bring a guest to award a free annual membership for 2024-25.

 MMPC Logo Clothing

MMPC clothing items are available to order. You can specify a hoodie as a pullover or zip-up or you can order a t-shirt. You can bring your order form to an MMPC meeting or you can send your order form to the address on the form. Delivery will be at a future MMPC meeting.

A limited number of club emblem patches are available for $15 each. The patches are 3½ inches square, embroidered, three color patches on heavy white cloth. See Glenn Dunn if you are interested.
