September Outdoor Meeting – Shigematsu Memorial Garden, Lansing Community College
The September MMPC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. at the Shigematsu Memorial Garden, on the downtown campus of Lansing Community College. The garden is adjacent to Dart Auditorium off of Capitol Ave. We sought an outdoor location to accommodate social distancing. The garden contains several traditional elements: a dry gravel garden and a water garden with traditional walking paths. Additional architecture and sculpture on the campus make good photographic subjects. Bring your camera and equipment and your mask. Please join us for this hands-on program. Even though we will be outdoors, remember to social distance and to wear masks.
September Meeting – Annual Dues
At the September meeting we will be collecting the dues for the year, we have kept the cost of being a club member to $35 again this year so please bring that with you to the meeting. Please understand that the dues defray costs associated with speakers, our venue and snacks provided at meetings and our annual holiday dinner. As a board, we have decided to obtain a Zoom account to conduct virtual meetings as the weather changes and this health condition continues. If you can’t make the meeting send payments to: Karen Towner, 10727 Keefer Highway, Portland, MI 48875.
October Virtual Meeting
MMPC has been informed that First Presbyterian Church plans to reevaluate use of the church when the current Executive Order is changed. The MMPC Board decided to hold a virtual meeting in October 2020 because of the restriction on group activities under the Governor’s Executive Order, the uncertainty of plans for activities at First Presbyterian Church, and our concern to prevent transmission of the coronavirus and to protect the safety of MMPC members. The club will conduct a virtual activity in October. Bill Harrison formerly of Custom Photographic will be the presenter on his photo printing during an online meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 7, 2020. MMPC will send the online meeting information by email the Monday before the event. The online meeting information will also be posted on the MMPC Facebook Group.
MMPC Board Election
The MMPC Board meets regularly. The Board meeting schedule is posted on the calendar at http://mmphotoclub.net/calendar. Recent meetings have been virtual, rather than in-person. Lenny Robinson and Jim Leary have recently been joining the board’s discussions. Board elections are scheduled for October 2020. We welcome any MMPC members who are interested in serving on the Board. An election will be held before the October 2020 meeting for the positions of President, Vice-President, and MMPC Board Member at-large. Paul Bielawski has agreed to be nominated as President, Lenny Robinson has agreed to be nominated as Vice-president, and Jim Leary has agreed to be nominated as member at-large. Please contact any MMPC Board member if you are interested in being nominated or if you wish to make an additional nomination. All MMPC members are welcome at all MMPC Board meetings. Send an email to mmpclansing@gmail.com or bielawp@gmail.com to request the Zoom information for a Board meeting.
MMPC Gallery Show
MMPC’s plans to hold the annual Gallery Show in 2020 were contingent on lifting of the coronavirus quarantine. Since Riverview Church is under the restriction on group activities under the Governor’s Executive Order, and drop-off was scheduled for September 30, the MMPC Board has decided to cancel the Fall 2020 Gallery Show. The MMPC Board will continue to search for other venues for this event.
